Trail of Lights Pet Policy

The only animals permitted in the Trail of Lights are service animals.  From the early planning stages of this event, we have deliberated this decision very seriously, conferring with safety, security and event experts to ensure that every being walking through those front gates is safe and secure.  Through extensive conversations with city, police, insurance, security, event management and volunteer management we determined we could not ensure the safety of Trail attendees—two-legged, four-legged and wheeled patrons—if animals other than service animals were permitted to this event.  The Trail of Lights is a 1.25 mile fenced pathway. There is simply not the space to safely accommodate animals at this event—for the sake of the animals and for Trail of Lights attendees.

Our security and volunteer personnel work diligently each night to keep 40,000 to 65,000 people safely and securely navigating the 1.25 miles of the Trail of Lights.

Dogs are permitted to enjoy the lights at the Zilker Tree across Barton Springs Road.

We will continue to assess opportunities to safely accommodate Austin’s four-legged friends in future years.

Austin Trail of Lights Continues with Exciting Events All Week For The Whole Family

The Austin Trail of Lights, powered by H-E-B is making the season bright with a celebration rich in tradition, shared stories and community.

Each night the trail opens at 6:30 pm and offers a complete holiday outing with performances, fun activities and dining opportunities. Nightly celebrations will feature a special theme and highlight numerous performers, dancers, singers, musicians and carolers on the Trail of Lights Entertainment Stage, presented by EZCORP. The gate closes promptly at 10 pm, so visitors arriving after 9 pm won’t be able to make it through the trail. The Austin Trail of Lights is brought to the city by a partnership between RunTex Carrozza Foundation and Forefront Austin with H-E-B as the lead sponsor. Presenting sponsors are Dell, EZCORP, Samsung, Seton Healthcare Family and Vista Equity Partners. Additional corporate sponsors include AT&T, Chase, Cirrus Logic, KXAN, Humana, Southpoint Auto Group and Wells Fargo.
