23 Area Nonprofit Organizations team up to Strengthen Community for GiveTogether Austin Campaign

Among Issues To Be Highlighted By Nonprofit Partners
AUSTIN, TX (December 14, 2012) – The Austin Trail of Lights, set to kick off on Sunday evening, will not only celebrate the spirit of the holiday season, but will provide an opportunity for the community to connect and strengthen Austin with creative ideas and new perspectives through the GiveTogether Austin campaign.
“The Trail of Lights Village, made possible by Dell, provides a platform for trail goers to have fun and find ways to advance Austin.” Says Paul Carrozza, CEO of RunTex. “We are creating experiences to connect all parts of the community as we move into a bright new year.”
“2012 has been a great year for Austin with great accomplishments in health, education, social services and the environment,” says Jay Watson, CEO of Forefront Austin. “The Trail of Lights is our opportunity to celebrate those accomplishments and come together to strengthen Austin into the coming years.
Twenty-three nonprofit organizations have joined forces to make up the GiveTogether Austin campaign, which will be on display inside the Trail of Lights Village, made possible by Dell, at Zilker Park. Throughout the eight days of festivities, GiveTogether Austin’s platform will provide a great opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments of 2012 and set goals for continued advancements for Austin in the coming year while highlighting four specific issues:
Health & Wellness: Organizations representing the health and wellness community will share information about innovative programs to help Central Texans adopt healthy habits.
- Participating Nonprofits: Dell Children’s Medical Center, Marathon Kids, People’s Community Clinic, Special Olympics of Texas, Sustainable Food Center and Wonder & Worries.
Youth & Education: Each organization will offer a different approach, a new perspective and unique solutions that will keep Austin educated, capable and growing.
- Participating Nonprofits: Breakthrough Austin, BookSpring, Boys & Girls Club of the Austin Area, Con MiMadre, Creative Action and The First Tee of Greater Austin.
Environment: These organizations will highlight their innovative solutions tokeep Austin a vibrant, resourceful and enjoyable place to call home.
- Participating Nonprofits: Austin Parks Foundation, EcoRise, Explore Austin, Keep Austin Beautiful and The Trail Foundation.
Social Services: These organizations are making sure all members of the community are integrated and contributing to Austin’s success.
- Participating Nonprofits: American Red Cross, Austin Habitat for Humanity, The Arc of the Capital Area, Capital Area Food Bank, El Buen Samaritano and Family Eldercare.
Donations to GiveTogether Austin will be directed to the Trail of Lights Giving Fund held at Austin Community Foundation. All net proceeds will distributed to the 23 official Trail of Lights nonprofit partners. The public may donate to the GiveTogether Austin fund in the following ways:
